FAQ - Sealing Wax

WHAT ARE GLUE GUN STYLE SEALING WAX STICKS?
Glue gun wax sticks are the convenient and efficient way to create wax seals! They are designed specifically for use with a glue gun. These wax sticks are more flexible than traditional wax, meaning that they shouldn't break when shocked by bending or dropping. They are the perfect wax for making wax seals that will be used on invitations / in the mail.

WHAT ARE WAX STICKS MADE OF?
They are made from food grade paraffin wax (petroleum-based), and do not contain beeswax or candle wax. The wax is non-allergenic, and though it should not be eaten, it is safe to use around food.

WHAT SIZE ARE THE WAX STICKS?
The sticks are approx 11mm diameter and 100mm in length. We sell them in pretty little packs of 3 sticks.

HOW MANY SEALS CAN I MAKE PER STICK OF SEALING WAX?
For a 30mm round wax stamp, we find that we can make 7 x quality wax seals.

WHAT TYPE OF GLUE GUN SHOULD I USE?
These sealing wax sticks are designed to be used with a standard 11mm glue gun. You can use any type/brand of gun, so long as it fits 11mm sticks.
• We ALWAYS recommend using a low temperature glue gun.

HOW DO I MELT THE WAX STICKS USING A GLUE GUN?
These sticks are designed for use with a 11mm glue gun. We always recommend a low temperature glue gun.

• Simply insert the wax stick into the glue gun..

• Wait 20-30 seconds for it to melt... (The glue gun will usually leak a little bead of wax from the nose indicating it is ready to go!)

• Position your glue gun over the desired area and gently squeeze the trigger 2-4 times until enough wax is extruded. You will need the amount of a small coin. Then set your gun down safely.

• Next pick up your stamp, ensure the orientation is correct and that the stamp is clean and dry and then firmly place the stamp into the centre of the molten wax. Don't move or wiggle the stamp as you do this - we find a direct and confident stamp in a downward motion works best each time.

• Remove the stamp and admire your tiny artwork!

Tip 1 : If stamping multiple seals, use an ice block to cool the stamp in between stamping to avoid the wax sticking to the stamp.

Tip 2 : Don't wait too long in between stamping seals! If the glue gun will be sitting idle for 2+ minutes between stamping, it's best to turn it off and then on again when required. The wax can easily overheat and whilst this is still perfectly fine to work with, we find it's easier to work with the wax when it is at a lower temperature.

Tip 3 : We recommend using a separate glue gun for each colour as residue from the previous colour may reside in the glue gun for a number of impressions.

CAN YOU MAKE CUSTOM WAX COLOURS?
Unfortunately no... however if you are looking for a particular color, please let us know and we can try source it for you.

CAN I MELT THESE GLUE GUN WAX STICKS WITH A MELTING SPOON?
Our wax is specifically designed for use with a glue gun, however if you would like to melt the sticks using the old world technique of holding a little melting spoon over a flame, this is absolutely an option!

• Just slice the sticks up into little chunks...

• Add a chunk or two to a wax melting spoon..

• Hold over a candle flame until the wax as melted (try not to allow the wax to overheat / bubble)

• Gently pour the molten liquid onto the desired area and stamp as normal.

Tip 1 : Be careful not to hold the melting spoon too close to the candle as the underside of the spoon may darken. We also recommend soot-free Soy candles.

Tip 2 : The melting spoon can be easily cleaned by wiping the wax off with a paper towel whilst wax is still warm/molten.

CAN I MIX THE SEALING WAX COLOURS WHEN STAMPING?
Yes! In order to mix colours when stamping, we advise using the 'melting spoon' method noted above. You can add little chunks of multiple colours of wax to the spoon and create wonderful effects!

If you would like to mix the colours on a larger scale, we recommend a wax melting pot.
